Coach Josey on the stopwatch!

"You call that fast?  I drool faster than that!"  Watch out for Coach Josey; she's a real pit bull.  :-)  But why the emphasis on time?  Because power = (mass x distance)/time.  The less time you in which you do your work, or the more work you do in a time period, the greater the power output.  And power also = intensity; and that's where the results are!  If you aren't increasing your power, you aren't getting more fit. … [Read more...] about Coach Josey on the stopwatch!

“We fail at the margins of our experience.”

That quote is from CrossFit founder Greg Glassman, and it's been on my mind all day.  In our years of experience we've seen countless people fail to progress.  One reason is poor exercise protocol/ programming.  But equally to blame is a real lack of intensity.  To get results, to be more fit, to become better athletes, we MUST push ourselves.  We MUST seek out the margins of our experience and move past them. … [Read more...] about “We fail at the margins of our experience.”

Speaking of power…

The Push Press begins with a dip-drive through the hips. ...THEN the shoulders and arms begin to push. That's how you develop real power and athleticism. … [Read more...] about Speaking of power…

(M x D)/T

(M x D)/T = power. The faster we move a given amount of mass a certain distance, the more power is required. If we increase power, it is incontrovertible that we have increased intensity. Intensity is where the results are. THAT is why we use the kipping pullup in our metabolic conditioning workouts. … [Read more...] about (M x D)/T

“I’m dying!”

One of the most important facets of CrossFit is intensity.  We can measure intensity because we can measure power.  Power is a function of Force and Distance over Time (M x D / T).  It is undeniable that an increase in power results in an increase in intensity.  To increase power, you can increase mass and/or distance, or decrease time.  Manipulating any one of these factors to increase power must result in an increase in intensity.   Intensity is all about hard and fast.  Power is an issue … [Read more...] about “I’m dying!”
