Back in March, I felt most days as if there was a 400-pound man on my shoulders. My workdays as an oncologist were chaotic and generally ridden with unfortunate events. I was getting fatter, due to stress eating and such. So, with the intention to lose a couple of inches and maybe look a little better in my skirts, I stumbled into Gateway Crossfit. Historically, my gym attendance has been poor, but now I look forward to my Crossfit sessions. My trainers, Mark and John, aren’t your usual meatheads. They’re intelligent, clever, full of one-liners; it’s like having a chat with your favorite bartender while lifting really heavy stuff. After a few months of sweating and grunting, I am visibly smaller. This is no surprise, since I’ve gone from zero exercise to “Crossfitting” multiple days a week. Far more shocking to me is the positive impact Gateway Crossfit has had on my quality of life. I smile more, my step is lighter, and I feel empowered! Don’t get me wrong, there are still days when the figurative 400-pound man sits on my chest. The difference is, now I feel like I can take him.
